Draft grade will determine whether or not Montee Ball goes pro

There has arguably been no better running back in college football this season than Wisconsin junior Montee Ball.

For non-seniors, success leaves speculation on whether or not to turn pro. Ball faces that speculation and seems to know what he wants to do. Ball told the media Monday that he’ll likely come back if the NFL Draft advisory board says he’s a third-round pick or later.

“Obviously I’d love to hear first round,” he told the media. “I’d love to hear even late second. But third or four I’d most likely stay.”

Where Ball gets projected will be largely based on the other running backs who come out. It will be hard for him to get to the first round if Alabama's Trent Richardson, Miami's Lamar Miller and Virginia Tech's David Wilson enters the draft. Each of them is more physically gifted than Ball and should get rated higher.

Offseason workouts will also be critical for Ball. There are questions out there, however unwarranted, that Ball is a typical Wisconsin runner. Meaning, he’s not overly fast, shifty and benefits from a great scheme. Unfortunately due to the lack of success of past Badgers running backs in the NFL, Ball needs to disprove the stereotype.
