Everton's Jack Rodwell hasn't had the best of seasons. Sidelined for eleven weeks with torn ankle ligaments after a crunching tackle by Aston Villa left-back Stephen Warnock in August, Rodwell had only recently managed to return to full fitness and regain his place in David Moyes' starting XI. Now, more bad luck has struck the 19 year-old.
Everton Midfielder Jack Rodwell Out Four Weeks With Groin Problem
Widely regarded as a future member of England's midfield, Rodwell started England's U-21 friendly against Italy in Empoli on Tuesday. He didn't even make it fifteen minutes, limping off the pitch with a groin strain, replaced by Chelsea's Jack Cork. England's young lions would go on to lose 1-0 thanks to a late penalty, but Everton fans were understandably more concerned about Rodwell's health than the result. Now we have an update on the injury, and it's not good.
Rodwell has been ruled out for at least four weeks with this latest problem, putting him out of action until mid-March at the earliest. It's a major blow for Everton, who were just starting to see their midfield duo of Rodwell and Marouane Fellaini get back to their best. What's especially galling is that the knock was sustained during a junior-level friendly - hardly a good reason to see one of their more riveting talents go down with yet another injury.
