Antonio Cromartie, New York Jets Expected To Part Ways

Wednesday night, Mike Lombardi said on NFL Network that the Jets will let veteran cornerback Antonio Cromartie leave via free agency this off-season.

All season, Jets coaches were frustrated with Cromartie’s inability to play the way they asked. GM Mike Tannenbaum was very measured in his assessment of Cromartie in his end-of-the-season press conference, saying “by and large, he had a good year on the field, It wasn’t perfect, but I’m glad he was a Jet.”

Off the field is where Cromartie may have damaged his chances of having a future with the organization. For a while, it seemed as though he was publicly ripping someone or something on a daily basis. And of course there was the time he threaten to smash Matt Hasselbeck’s face in via Twitter.

Jets blog Gang Green Nation has heard the report. And they are fine with it.

I would be fine with this. Cro had a good season, but even then he is an underachiever. He has more God given ability than Darrelle Revis. He should consistently dominate. The things he does well are too limited considering his athleticism. Plus corners make crazy amounts on the open market.

According to Lombardi, the Jets w re-signing would rather focus on signing wide receivers Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards. The team also has firt-round pick Kyle Wilson on the roster if they want to part ways with Cromartie. They are also expected to pursue free agent Nnamdi Asomugha.

Cromartie will find work for sure if he is allowed to walk. I mean, he has to. He’s got kids to feed.

Follow Gang Green Nation for any updates on the report and analysis if it happens.
