Hockey in a nutshell: Mike Fisher takes a puck to the face. He goes back to the locker room and gets stitched up. It took a while because there was so much blood, he said after the game. After returning to the ice, he did this.
Canucks Vs. Predators: Mike Fisher Bleeds, Scores In Nashville Win
Turned out to be the game-winning goal, as well as Fisher's first goal as a Predator. Second star of the game. Not first, second. I guess that's how good Pekka Rinne was on Thursday night.
He turned aside 35 of 36 shots, and Barry Trotz hopes this can be a playoff preview. Via On The Forecheck:
The one interesting theme coming out of Trotz’s post-game press conference was looking at tonight’s game as a potential playoff preview. “It’d be great to see a Fisher/Kesler battle for 7 games, they’re cut from the same cloth,” Trotz said. He also noted the Rinne/Luongo matchup as being as good as it gets in the NHL.
Elsewhere in the NHL...
Bruins 6, Islanders 3: The four-game winning streak ends on Long Island. Long live the streak.
Oilers 4, Canadiens 1: Meanwhile, STREAKING IN EDMONTON!
Sharks 3, Capitals 2: They’re mirror images of each other, really. Historically great in the regular season, duds in the playoffs. The trend has changed for both this season, but one part still holds true: the Capitals can’t win in San Jose. Washington is 0-for their last 11 tries on the road against the Sharks. Back East they go, now.
Coyotes 4, Thrashers 3: Keith Yandle had three assists and Phoenix continued a pretty impressive streak: they've never lost to Atlanta on home ice.
