The Buffalo Sabres are four points out of the Eastern Conference playoffs with three games in hand on the eighth place Carolina Hurricanes. So calling this game a must win for the Buffalo Sabres is an understatement. They are in the midst of a six game homestand and how the team finishes that homestand is going to determine what they will do at the trade deadline.
Capitals Vs. Sabres: Sabres Look To Still Climb Back Into Playoff Hunt
From the Buffalo News:
“It does influence, yeah,” Regier said in Northtown Center in Amherst. “The decision you make, it could happen before [the deadline and end of the homestand], but certainly it can also impact how we do in that span.”
In terms of the players playing, there is no change in the lineup for the Sabres. Ryan Miller will be in net for the Sabres again as he has been for most of the season for the team. Miller is 11-7 career and 0-1 this season against the Washington Capitals.
The Capitals are finishing up a five game road trip with the first of back to back games against the Sabres. The Capitals have struggled on the road trip, only winning one of their three games on the West Coast. Good news for the Capitals is that Mike Green could return to the lineup after being hit in the head with a Brooks Orpik slapshot a few weeks ago. Starting in net for the Capitals will be Semyon Varlamov who is 5-4 in his career and 1-0 on the season against the Buffalo Sabres.
