On Tuesday, the Dodgers sent their right-handed pitcher, Vicente Padilla, to Los Angeles to have his elbow examined. As MLB.com reports, Padilla has experienced elbow pain similar to the sort he suffered during his 2010 campaign.
Vincente Padilla Experiencing Pain In Throwing Arm; Same Elbow Was Injured In 2010
Forearm nerve discomfort, as well as a bulging disk in his neck, shelved Padilla for two months last season. In the 12 starts he made after his trip to the disabled list, he recorded a 3.31 ERA. During this stretch, he joined Chad Billingsley, Clayton Kershaw, and Hideki Kuroda to form one of the more formidable starting rotations in the National League.
Our Dodgers blog, True Blue LA, sheds some light on the expectations the team had held for Padilla prior to this development:
The plan is for Padilla to get work early in spring training as a starter, but then move into a relief role, where he will likely begin the season. Padilla, who has a boatload of contract incentives whether he starts or relieves, seems fine with either role.
