UConn basketball coach Jim Calhoun will miss three games next season due to infractions. He’ll also miss UConn’s next game this season, though for much different reasons: the death of his wife’s sister.
Jim Calhoun To Miss UConn’s Game Thursday Due To Family Death
Calhoun was close with Eileen Fucile, the sister of his wife, Pat. Fucile died Monday after a 12-year battle with breast cancer. Calling hours and a memorial service will be held in Nashua, N.H., Fucile’s hometown.
Calhoun also missed practice on Wednesday. Associate head coach George Blaney will run the team in Calhoun’s absence, just as he did last season when Calhoun missed time for health reasons.
UConn's star player Kemba Walker feels for his coach but says the team won't let it affect their play against Marquette on Thursday.
“He’s got bigger things to worry about,” junior Kemba Walker said. “It’s not going to affect us at all, anyway. We’re just going to play basketball, that’s it.”
