The Chicago Bears extended the contract of head coach Lovie Smith, the team announced on Friday. The extension runs for two seasons which will keep him under contract through the 2013 season. The Bears had a solid year snagging the second seed in the NFC playoffs before losing to the eventual Super Bowl champion Green Bay Packers.
Lovie Smith, Chicago Bears Agree On Two-Year Contract Extension
Smith said in the Bears release that he loves everything about working in Chicago.
"[Chicago] is home for us. I just love everything about my job. We haven't won the world championship. So to have an opportunity to achieve our goal and win a world championship is special."
SB Nation’s Windy City Gridiron agrees with the move and writes that Smith made some improvements last season.
Lovie made some pretty significant moves in the off-season by bringing in two former head coaches, and promoting another to his Defensive Coordinator. Smith also seemed to hold his players more accountable this year, than it has appeared in the past.
The Bears won the division and had a first round bye so I think they’re moving in the right direction and keeping Smith in house makes sense.
