The Anaheim Ducks extended the contract of their general manager, Bob Murray, on Friday afternoon. It's a four-year extension that will take him through the 2015-16 season. In a statement, team CEO Michael Schulman said that the signing brings stability to the position for the Ducks.
GM Bob Murray Gets 4-Year Extension From Anaheim Ducks
“Bob has positioned us well for the future,” he said. “He has added youth to our current lineup, with several exciting prospects still on the horizon. He deserves the stability this contract extension brings.”
Murray took over the position in 2008 after Brian Burke left Anaheim to take the general manager's job with the Toronto Maple Leafs. This move is just the latest in a long hockey career for Murray. He's been involved in the pro ranks of the sport every year since 1974 when he was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks.
After 15-years with the 'Hawks, Murray became a scout with the organization. He worked his way up to the GM position there before a stop in Anaheim and a six-year stint with the Vancouver Canucks. He returned to the Ducks in 2005 and served under Burke when Anaheim won the Stanley Cup in 2007.
