The Los Angeles Kings have signed right winger Justin Williams to a four-year extension valued at $14.6 million, with a cap hit of $3.65 million, via a tweet from TSN's Bob McKenzie. This is a minor raise for Williams, who earned $3.5 million last season and carried that cap hit during the last term of his contract.

The oft-injured Williams is a steady, effective winger that can be reliable on both sides of the puck. At 28, he's flown under the radar for most of his career, mostly because injuries have stolen large chunks of recent seasons away from him. At his best, Williams had two 30+ goal seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes, and is on pace to do so again with the Kings (knock on wood).
If he stays healthy, this is a very good deal for Kings GM Dean Lombardi, as they get a guy with 20 to 30-goal potential, along with a total-points upside of 70 or so points. It’s always a gamble with an oft-injured guy, but hey, that’s what long-term injured reserve cap relief is for, right?
