Corey Hart Has Oblique Strain; Will Miss Two Weeks

Spring Training is all about getting ready for the season. Generally speaking, players won't really mind if they put up bad numbers, as long as they feel prepared and find their timing. The only thing a player really doesn't want to do in Spring Training is get injured. So with that in mind, it's bad news for Brewers outfielder Corey Hart, who's been diagnosed with a strained oblique.

Hart originally felt a tug making a throw from the outfield on Saturday. His foot slipped on some dew and he felt tightness in his ribcage. He immediately left the field and went to the training room in an effort to be proactive and so as not to make anything worse, but while the Brewers originally figured he’d only miss a few days, further examination revealed the extent of the injury, and Hart will be shut down for about two weeks.

It isn’t a major injury, and because position players don’t need as much time to prepare for the season as pitchers, right now Hart is still on track to be fine by Opening Day. He doesn’t have a history of problems with his oblique. However, this is the sort of injury that can linger and flare up if it isn’t managed carefully, so Hart will have to be patient. You don’t want to hurry back and aggravate this sort of thing, because a worse oblique strain can knock a guy out for quite some time.

The Brewers’ll be counting on Hart this year to help them in their playoff push. Hart erupted for 31 home runs a season ago and signed a three-year extension last August.
