With ice flowing through his veins, Jason Kidd pumped once, watched Ray Allen fly by him and buried a three with 2.5 seconds left to give the Dallas Mavericks a 99-97 lead over the Boston Celtics. The Celtics had a chance to tie it up, but Kevin Garnett couldn't bring down Rajon Rondo's alley-oop attempt off the inbounds pass, giving the Mavs the ball back and allowing Dirk Nowitzki to seal it at the line. The end result was a 101-97 Dallas win at the Garden over the Eastern Conference leading Celtics.
Mavericks Look For Seventh Straight Win Vs. Conference-Best Celtics
Nowitzki led all scorers on the night, finishing with 29 points. Tyson Chandler had a double-double for the Mavs with 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Jason Terry had 17 points, Jose Juan Barea had 11, Shawn Marion had 13 and Kidd had 10 as six Mavs were in double-figures. Kidd also had a team-high nine assists.
Ray Allen led the way for the Celtics with 24 points in the loss. Kevin Garnett had 16, Kendrick Perkins had 13, Paul Pierce had 12 and Marquis Daniels had 10 points. Perkins also finished with a team-high 12 rebounds while Rondo had a game-high 12 assists.
The Mavs improved to 34-15 with the win, but still sit seven games behind the San Antonio Spurs in the Southwest division. The Celtics fell to 37-12, but hold a 12 game lead over the New York Knicks in the Atlantic division.
