In case you missed it (highly likely), the UFC’s lobbying push to get MMA sanctioned in New York continued yesterday. An op-ed published in the Democrat and Chronicle was guest authored by none other than Jones himself. Well, not really. Someone from the PR firm of Global Strategies Group realistically wrote it, but given that Jones is a) high profile and was competing on the day the op-ed was published, b) a New York resident, his “authorship” made sense.

The piece covers all of the talking points one would expect. It’s just an earned media piece trying to forward the messaging of the entire legalization campaign. You can read the entire piece here. You won’t learn much other than how the UFC is pushing the issue.

I generally find the reliance on economic contributions from the UFC to be abysmally wrong given the serious state of budget battles in the state. But this piece has a nice grassroots feel to it, perhaps the most neglected yet most important ingredient in getting New Yorkers to actually care about the issue.
