Diego Milito Faces Six Week Absence With Thigh Strain

After scoring 46 goals the previous two season, Diego Milito's met a serious to troubles this year, troubles which were compounded on Sunday. Then, the Argentine attacker suffered a muscle injury in Inter Milan's 5-3 win over Roma. After evaluations on Monday, Milito has been diagnosed with a thigh strain that could keep him out of action for six weeks.

The strain was incurred after Milito came off the bench this weekend, playing the last 20 minutes after starting mid-week at Bari. In 16 appearances this season, Milito has been held to five goals, a 47 percent decrease in strike rate from last season, with Inter's scoring impetus shifting more toward Samuel Eto'o.

While the likes of Goran Pandev and recently acquired Giampaolo Pazzini give Leonardo depth at striker. Milito's loss will be felt in Champions League, where (as Football Italia notes) Pazzini is not eligible.

Internazionale is currently third in the Italian Serie A, five points behind league-leading Milan, holding a match in hand. Since hiring Leonardo to replace Rafa Benítez near the end of 2010, Inter has won nine of 10, climbing from mid-table into contention for their sixth consecutive scudetto.
