David Beckham Will Stay With Tottenham Two More Weeks, Delaying Return To LA Galaxy

Los Angeles Galaxy training camp opened more than two weeks ago without their highest paid player. Now, it looks like it will be at least two more weeks before David Beckham joins the team that is paying his salary.

The latest news out of England is that Beckham has extended his training stint with Tottenham and will now be there until Feb. 24. Beckham had previously been scheduled to end his training stint on Feb. 10, and at one point a short-term loan had even been considered. The Galaxy open their season on March 15 against the Seattle Sounders.

That Beckham is once again putting the interests of the Galaxy behind his personal aspirations of once again playing internationally for England is an unfortunate, but predictable, development. As has been pointed out in several ways, Beckham has played for European teams almost as often as he has with the Galaxy since signing his record contract back in 2007. Including playoffs, Beckham has played in 55 matches with the Galaxy, or about 54 percent of the matches his team has played in that time. He’s played in a combined 54 matches with AC Milan and England during that same stretch. He is not, however, on England’s roster for their upcoming friendly against Denmark.
