The crowded Big East brings a basketball game between highly-rated teams on a regular basis, but not always one that goes to overtime. But Louisville and Notre Dame headed to an extra period after ending regulation tied at 74 each before the Irish took off.
No. 8 Notre Dame Runs Away From No. 16 Louisville In Overtime, 89-79
At least three players for each team have gone for double digits in the game, with Tim Abromaitis and Ben Hansbrough doing most of the scoring for the Irish. Abromaitis finished with 23 points, held scoreless in overtime, and Hansbrough contributed another 25. Jack Cooley was five-of-five with 10 points.
Kyle Kuric had 28 points for Louisville, followed by Terrence Jennings with 14 and Preston Knowles with 13. The Cardinals were making nearly 52 percent of their shots from the floor when the clock ran out, finishing just under 50. Other than that -- Notre Dame shot at about a 47 percent clip -- the matchup was relatively even across the stat sheet.
Louisville took a 44-40 lead into the half; neither team would lead by as much for the rest of the night until overtime.
