It was just about two weeks ago that Sporting Kansas City forward Teal Bunbury was injured in a preseason game against the Houston Dynamo. It was learned shortly thereafter that he was looking at 4-6 weeks of recovery time. Now, just two weeks later, Bunbury is saying that he expects to be ready by March 19 for the SKC opener against Chivas USA.
Teal Bunbury Says He’ll Be Ready For Kansas City Opener On March 19
“I really feel like I’ll be ready for the season opener,” he said. “I’ve got a great staff here helping me out.”
Bunbury says he’s still experiencing some pain from his dislocated elbow, but doesn’t seem to like the idea of missing anymore time than is absolutely necessary. Bunbury, as has been documented, is coming off an off-season in which he trained with Stoke City, made his debut for the United States National Team and generally saw his stock rise immensely.
Sporting Kansas City could, no doubt, use all the help they can get, especially early in the season. With at least three teams from the Eastern Conference guaranteed playoff spots, SKC seems to be in a great position to end their two-year playoff drought. To do that, though, they’ll have to avoid stumbling out of the gate when they play their first 10 games on the road as their new stadium is completed.
