UEFA were not particularly impressed by Arsenal's behaviour following their 4-3 aggregate defeat at the hands of Barcelona early last week, and they've expressed their displeasure by handing down one-game bans to both manager Arsene Wenger and winger Samir Nasri, which will see both suspended for the first group stage match next season. The pair have been punished for their comments about and around the incident which saw Robin van Persie unjustly shown a second yellow card early in the second half of the match at the Camp Nou - Wenger went on to liken UEFA to a dictatorship when he was charged with misconduct, and is probably lucky to have escaped further censure. Neither of the bans are likely to have any real impact on Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger, Samir Nasri And Joe Jordan All Handed 1-Match Bans By UEFA
There's also been another handed down to a London club, but unlike the Gunners, Tottenham Hotspur remain in the competition. Joe Jordan has received a one match ban for the incident that resulted in Gennaro Gattuso headbutting the 59 year-old, and while it's tempted to suggest that FIFA has lost the plot and is blaming the victim, remember that Jordan was antagonizing the midfielder from the touchline for much of the evening, and the punishment is presumably for that. Jordan will miss Spurs' next match in the Champions League, which isn't really a big deal because he's just an assistant coach.
