The world's most expensive footballer is also proving to be one of the more fragile. Cristiano Ronaldo managed to aggravate his hamstring during Real Madrid's 2-1 victory over cross-city rivals Athletico, and according to the BBC, the problem could see him out for almost three weeks. Ronaldo, who moved to Spain from Manchester United in 2009, suffered an initial injury against Malaga two weeks ago, but came back early from that injury to guide his team to victory against Lyon in the Champions League Round of Sixteen.
Cristiano Ronaldo Injury May Sideline Real Madrid Star For 3 Weeks
It was a calculated gambit from Jose Mourinho and co.: Any time you rush a player back from injury, you risk incurring a more severe problem. Unfortunately for Real, it hasn’t worked out. Three weeks from now, they take on English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of their Champions League quarter final match. Ronaldo is now looking at a race to regain fitness for that critical match - never mind the La Liga matches, if Real fail to beat Spurs everyone at that club will be in a lot of trouble.
