Bundesliga managers are dropping like flies. Well, perhaps not quite like flies - the little guys often don’t give themselves their own expiration dates, which was a rather odd feature of Louis van Gaal’s departure from Bayern Munich. Now Bayer Leverkusen boss Jupp Heynckes is joining the party, claiming that he too will depart at season’s end, to be replaced by current Frieburg coach Robin Dutt, who in turn will be replaced by Marcus Sorg.
Jupp Heynckes To Leave Bayer Leverkusen At End Of Season
If this all seems like a bizarre game of managerial musical chairs to you, you’re not alone. Speculation is rife that Heynckes, whose club is currently second in the league behind Borussia Dortmund, will be filling the vacant position at Bayern Munich in the summer. The 65 year-old, who has two previous spells with Germany’s biggest club, claims that he has indeed received an official offer from Bayern, but he has not yet decided whether or not to accept said offer. In the meantime, Heynckes is a lame duck at Leverkusen, but apparently that won’t stop him from doing his gosh-darned best to win:
Leverkusen is a well managed club with a great team and it was difficult taking this decision.
I will do everything so we finish second in the league and qualify directly for the Champions League.
Well that’s a relief, although a more accurate statement would probably be ‘You know what, I don’t care. This team can manage itself. I’m going to have a nap’.
