The Denver Broncos hold the second pick in the 2011 NFL draft and, while they spent a first round pick on QB Tim Tebow last year, there's some chatter they could pick a quarterback at No. 2. It's hard to believe considering both Tebow and QB Kyle Orton are still on the roster but John Elway hinted that it's possible this week.
2011 NFL Draft: Could Denver Broncos Go Quarterback At No. 2?
"We're always looking for that guy," Elway said, when asked specifically about the so-called "franchise quarterback of the future." "We may already have the guy who can pull the trigger and win us a championship someday. We may have him. We don't know. We believe in Tim but he's not there yet."
I still have a hard time they’d go after a quarterback. Defensive line is still a significant need and it seems most of the 2011 NFL mock drafts I’ve seen agree with that assessment. Guys like DT Nick Fairley or DT Marcell Dareus appear to be better fits for the Broncos in the draft.
Quarterback possibilities for the Broncos would likely be QB Blaine Gabbert or QB Cam Newton, if that’s the route they decided to go. Both players are visiting the Broncos before the draft.
It’ll be interesting to see what the Broncos do because they’re in a unique position with Tebow sitting there and the organization apparently unsure if he’s the one to lead the team.
