Welcome to our Richmond International Raceway countdown series, where we’ll be taking a look at the five best current Richmond drivers leading up to the April 30 race at the 0.75-mile track: The Matthew and Daniel Hansen 400, which is being presented once again by Crown Royal.
Richmond’s slogan is “Racing Perfection,” but it could also be “You Have To Be Really Damn Good To Win Here.”
Look at the names of the drivers who have won in the past six years at Richmond: Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Jimmie Johnson, Clint Bowyer, Kevin Harvick, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kurt Busch and Kasey Kahne.
What do they have in common? They’re all big-name, star drivers who know how to win a short-track race; you don’t see many average drivers sneak up and steal a Richmond victory on a fluke.
It’s one thing to have to be good to win at Richmond. But we wanted to know: Which current drivers are the best of the best at the Virginia track?
In the weeks leading up to Richmond, we’ll be counting down the track’s top-performing drivers (hint: Save this for your fantasy picks).
Who are some of the likely candidates you might see win if you go to the race? Stay tuned.
