Curtis Granderson Suffers Oblique Injury, Scratched From Lineup

Yankees outfielder Curtis Granderson was originally penciled in to the team's starting lineup on Tuesday for its game against the Orioles. However, he wound up a late scratch, and the reason is that he suffered an oblique strain.

It’s believed that Granderson strained his oblique while taking batting practice before the game. After being scratched, he was seen walking around and signing autographs with no sign of discomfort, implying that the injury isn’t major. However, oblique strains are tricky, and so we’ll see how Granderson progresses. It seems like he should only be out for a few days, but there does exist the possibility that he has to begin the season on the disabled list.

Joba Chamberlain and Sergio Mitre have also suffered oblique strains in Yankees camp this spring, and have recovered. If Granderson does have to miss the beginning of the season, he would likely be replaced by Andruw Jones.

Granderson is 15-39 in Grapefruit League action, with three triples and three home runs.
