Boston College’s Anthonoy Castonzo is on his way to the 2011 NFL draft and there’s no one better to explain who he is than SB Nation’s BC Interruption.
2011 NFL Draft: LT Anthony Castonzo, Boston College
Bio stats: Left tackle, 6’7”, 308 pounds
Defensive/offensive scheme, and projected NFL position: Castonzo played in two different offensive schemes while on the Heights. Under Jeff Jagodzinski and Steve Logan, BC employed a zone blocking scheme. In 2009, BC abandoned the zone blocking scheme when HC Frank Spaziani and OC Gary Tranquill took the helm. Spaz and Tranquill had a different blocking scheme that mixed in both zone and man-to-man principles.
A story about Castonzo: A couple stories recently came out following the Combine’s media day. One involved the size of Castonzo’s feet:
“My left foot is a good inch and a half bigger than my right foot,” Castonzo said, explaining an odd side effect of his growth spurt. “In high school I started buying two different sized shoes. Now I just wear 18′s [on both], so it works for me.”
If Castonzo is the first or second tackle taken off the board in this year’s Draft, something tells me he can buy all the custom-fit shoes he wants.
It’s also worth noting that Castonzo didn’t have a D1 scholarship offer coming out of high school, and spent a semester at Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia before coming to BC. Now Castonzo is a potential first round NFL draft pick. We totally buy into HS recruiting service rankings, too.
Comparable to which NFL player: Struggling to come up with a comparable NFL player here. I suppose New England Patriots fans want Castonzo to be a Matt Light-lite, who is a free agent this offseason. Castonzo, for his part, is a big fan of Light.
