Pierre Thomas will be staying in New Orleans. Saints head coach Sean Payton confirmed to NewOrleans.com that Thomas agreed to a four-year contract to stay with the team.
Pierre Thomas, New Orleans Saints Agree To Four-Year Contract
Thomas had received a second round tender from the Saints meaning he was likely going to be in New Orleans next year either way.
His extension is a bit of a surprise considering the injuries he went through in the 2010 season. But with Chris Ivory coming off injury, and the status of Reggie Bush unknown, they wanted to lock him up. Plus, Thomas apparently was asking for quite a bit of money last year when he was looking for a new deal.
The timing is notable because the current CBA between NFL owners and players expires at midnight. After that, no contracts could have been signed until a new labor deal is done.
