Armando Alonso scored a goal while sitting on his back by tipping the ball past the Olimpia goalkeeper to give Saprissa a 2-0 aggregate goal lead over Olimpia in the second leg of their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal on Thursday. It was Alonso’s fourth goal of the tournament, the most by any Saprissa player.
Olimpia Vs. Saprissa, CONCACAF Champions League: Saprissa Takes 2-0 Aggregate Lead
With the away-goal rule, Olimpia would have to outscore Saprissa by three goals from here on out. The match has been pretty wide open, with the two sides swapping scoring opportunities. But none of them had resulted in anything until Gabriel Badilla sent a pass into the box. Alonso got a quick touch on it, fell to the ground and was able to get one more flick that got the ball in the back of the net.
Now, it looks like Saprissa is headed for a CCL semifinal matchup with Real Salt Lake starting on March 15 at Rio Tinto Stadium. The second leg will be played on April 5 at either Saprissa or Olimpia.
