Earlier Thursday, Rob mentioned that Giants starter Barry Zito had been involved in a car accident. Zito didn't appear to be significantly injured, but he was taken in for tests anyway. And via Andrew Baggarly, there's good news - Zito's just fine, and he's expected to make his scheduled start on Sunday.
Barry Zito Expected to Start Following Car Crash
Zito was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for precautionary X-rays to investigate a sore neck. The tests showed no structural damage, according to Giants PR man Jim Moorehead. Bochy just told KNBR that he spoke to Zito and the left-hander was confident he could make his start on Sunday.
Zito also had an MRI, and he’s going to be checked out by the team trainers, but from the sounds of things, nothing major is wrong. He’s just dealing with some minor soreness that should go away in a few days.
Zito’s car was broadsided when the other car ran a red light. Zito, therefore, was not at fault for the accident.
