On Saturday, Seattle Mariners catcher Miguel Olivo suffered an injury to his right groin muscle while playing in a Spring Training game against the Cleveland Indians. The News-Tribune reports:
Miguel Olivo Injury: Mariners Catcher Suffers Strained Groin Muscle
Catcher Miguel Olivo suffered a strained right groin muscle today and the Mariners sent him for an MRI to determine the seriousness of the injury.
Olivo, 32, was carted to the clubhouse for medical attention, then sent to a local medical facility.
Groin injuries are bad news, they're really bad news for catchers, and they're really, really bad news for catchers during Spring Training, when teams place a premium on avoiding injuries. In Olivo's absence, the Mariners figure to start Adam Moore, Josh Bard, or a platoon of the two.
Olivo, who turns 33 in July, signed with the Mariners in the off-season. Last year, he posted a .765 OPS in 427 plate appearances for the Colorado Rockies.
