Over the past month, No. 6 Purdue has stood out as one of the most impressive basketball teams in the nation. But Iowa, their lowly Big Ten rival, was determined to close out their own lackluster season with a win. With no possibility for postseason play, the Hawkeyes out-rebounded and out-shot the Boilermakers to pull off the upset, 67-65.
Iowa 67, Purdue 65, Final Score: Hawkeyes End Season With Big Upset Of No. 6 Boilermakers
Jarryd Cole led the Hawkeyes in both points (16) and rebounds (10). In total, Iowa pulled down 47 rebounds, as opposed to Purdue's 32. Point guard Bryce Cartwright chipped in with 13 points and seven assists.
Purdue’s JaJuan Johnson scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in the loss. With this defeat, the Boilermakers lose all chance of winning a share of the regular season Big Ten title, and Ohio State figures to win outright. Iowa, meanwhile, will finish near the conference cellar with a 4-14 record, but the Hawkeyes are certainly going out with a bang.
