Once more, it’s the team in orange and blue that rules the SEC: Florida’s 86-76 victory over Vanderbilt today gives Florida the outright SEC regular season championship.
No. 14 Florida Beats No. 21 Vanderbilt 86-76, Earns Outright SEC Championship
All five Florida starters scored 13 or more points, but Kenny Boynton paced the Gators with 17. Vandy's John Jenkins led all scorers with 22 points, and Jeffrey Taylor added 15.
The Gators started slow, but finished the first half on a 20-5 run and kept the Commodores at bay throughout the second half with timely runs and good free throw shooting. Florida pounded the offensive boards, too, grabbing 11 second chances.
The Gators had previously assured themselves at least a share of the SEC’s regular season title with a win over Alabama on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Vanderbilt will limp into postseason play after losing three of its last four regular season contests. Today’s loss also means Kentucky, not the Commodores, will enjoy a bye in the SEC Tournament.
