Introducing New Hit Song About Royals!

* You probably know Rany Jazayerli as a baseball analyst, and eternally overoptimistic Royals fan. You might know him as a licensed and fully bonded dermatologist. You might even know him, as I do, as a friend. But Rany Jazayerli, songwriter? Yup. You heard it here first.
* Hey, I just remembered that I’m no longer prohibited -- upon penalty of death (or maybe a stern talking-to) -- from linking to Deadspin! So, I’ve got that going for me. Anyway, I can’t imagine a better first Deadspin link than this video with Jim Bouton giving a knuckleball tutorial.
* As only he can do -- and I do mean that quite literally -- Wezen-ball’s Larry Granillo takes us through Duane Kuiper’s sole career home run, quite literally second by second. And it is good.
* This item should have been in Monday Linkage, except there isn’t Monday Linkage. Anyway, I’m quoted, along with Ben McGrath, in Only a Game’s take last weekend on the Barry Bonds trial.
* Speaking of Ben McGrath, the New Yorker’s website marks the publication of Cardboard Gods in paperback with a nice Josh Wilker interview.
* Really nice piece from the A.V. Club on the state of the baseball card in 2011.
*Memo to SteinBrothers (Prince Hal and Hankenstein) ... Dudes, I know you don’t want to just give your money away because that sets a dangerous precedent. But, really? In the shadow of the Stadium? Make something happen! Think what it would do for the family name!
* Every March, we’re treated to amazing stories about the bizarre paths various rookies have taken before finally reaching the Big Show, but this year the story of Mariners reliever Tom Wilhelmsen -- via Geoff Baker -- just might be the best.
