Some consider Clemson defensive end Da'Quan Bowers the best player in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Da’Quan Bowers can reaffirm top NFL Draft status at pro day
He’ll get his latest chance to prove physically today that he’s a top pick during a personal pro day workout. Bowers has been recovering from postseason right knee surgery.
At the NFL Scouting Combine in February, Bowers said the injury happened against North Carolina State in October.
“I just waited to have the surgery,” Bowers said. “It wasn’t bad. It was a small tear. I could play through it. It hurt a little bit but not enough to stop me from playing.”
The injury was bad enough, though, that Bowers didn’t workout at the Combine or Clemson’s March 10 pro day.
According to Todd McShay of ESPN, two teams have removed Bowers from their board due to the knee issue.
“The more people I talk to, the more legitimate the concern is,” McShay said on ESPN.
For the pro day today, Bowers isn’t expected to be 100 percent. Still, teams will want to see him go through the drills as well as he can. There are questions about Bowers’ agility and explosion. Any pass rusher taken early has to show he can dip and turn the corner. If Bowers can’t show that, it may doom his draft stock.
He’ll also go through a Combine re-test April 8. If he fails medical evaluations there, even more teams may become wary.
