Down to their final out, the San Francisco Giants leaned on Miguel Tejada and he came through in a big way, knocking in a game-winning, two-run double to give the Giants a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. The Giants came into the ninth inning down 2-1, but put together a rally that began with a one-out Buster Posey single and ended with Tejada's walk-off double at AT&T Park on Saturday night.
Giants Vs. Cardinals: Miguel Tejada Double Gives San Francisco Walk-Off Win, 3-2
Jamie Garcia and Matt Cain engaged in a pitching duel over the first five innings as each team struggled to get it going at the plate. The Giants finally broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth as Mark DeRosa singled, bringing Pat Burrell around to score. St. Louis answered in the sixth as Cain got a bit wild, walking lead-off batter Skip Schumaker and allowing him to score on a wild pitch three batters later.
In the top of the seventh, Cain made another mistake and Colby Rasmus made him pay with a lead-off home run to put the Cardinals in front, 2-1. The score stayed knotted until the bottom of the ninth when Tejada's double -- which skipped off Rasmus' glove in the gap -- plated two and gave the Giants their second walk-off win in as many days.
Ryan Franklin was tagged with the loss after giving up two runs on two hits and a walk. Cain went seven innings with five hits and two runs, both of which came earned. Garcia gave up four hits and a run in six innings for the Cardinals.
