Nationals Vs. Mets: Washington Takes Extra Inning Win, 7-3

A four-run 11th inning gave the Washington Nationals all they needed to escape Citi Field with an extra inning win over the New York Mets on Sunday afternoon. After falling behind 3-1, Washington came storming back in the eighth to even the score and, eventually, force extra innings. After a scoreless 10th, the Nationals broke through in a big way, putting four runs on the board in the top of the 11th to secure a 7-3 win.

The Mets drew first blood in the second as David Wright singled to score Jose Reyes. Wright came around to score two batters later on an Angel Pagan single and the Mets had a 2-0 lead early. The Nationals rallied in the top of the third, cutting the deficit to one on an Ivan Rodriguez groundout. Ike Davis tacked on another run in the sixth for New York, putting the Nationals in a 3-1 hole.

In the eighth, an Ian Desmond single plated Rodriguez and Rick Ankiel followed that up with a single of his own, scoring Jerry Hairston Jr. It was all Nationals from there as it headed to extras. A four-run outburst, which began with an RBI single from Rodriguez, was capped by a three-run homer by Laynce Nix, putting the Nats ahead for good.

Sean Burnett slammed the door in the bottom of the inning, giving the Nationals a 7-3 win. Rodriguez finished 2-4 with two runs and two RBIs, Nix was 1-3 with the aforementioned three-run homerun and Desmond finished 2-6 with an RBI.
