Phillies Vs. Braves: Cole Hamels Slams Door On Atlanta, 3-0

Cole Hamels pitched seven innings of four-hit ball and the Philadelphia Phillies gave him all the cushion he needed in a 3-0 win over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday. Hamels finished without allowing a run, striking out eight to only one walk over his seven innings of work before Ryan Madson and Jose Contreras came in to slam the door over the final two innings. Runs in the fourth, sixth and ninth by the Phillies were enough as Atlanta was never able to mount a serious challenge with Hamels on the mound.

Jimmy Rollins got the offense going in the fourth after the Phillies put runners on the corners with nobody out. Atlanta got a double-play, but Shane Victorino came around to score to put Philadelphia in front, 1-0. Victorino did it himself in the sixth, taking Derek Lowe deep with a solo shot to put the Phillies up 2-0. In the ninth, Ryan Howard added an insurance run, plating Rollins on a fielders choice.

Derek Lowe was tagged with the loss after pitching seven innings, allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out two. Victorino was 3-4 with a home run, Carlos Ruiz was 2-3 and Rollins was 1-4 with an RBI for Philadelphia in the win. Jason Heyward finished the game 1-3 for the Braves as hits were hard to come by against the tough Phillies' staff.
