Over the next few weeks, we'll evaluate the best and worst top 10 picks in a 10-year span from 1999-2008. We capped this at 2008 because it's unfair to judge first- or second-year players. Today, the pick eight bust.
Pick: Eight overall
The player: Jamaal Anderson | DE | Atlanta Falcons (2007)
NFL Draft successes and busts 10-year evaluation: 8th overall bust
The eighth pick from 1999 to 2008 has been pretty bland. Donte Whitner (Bills, 2006), Derrick Harvey (Jaguars, 2008) and David Terrell (2001) were all bad picks. None, though, have reached the unenviable level of Falcons defensive end Jamaal Anderson.
When Atlanta drafted Anderson, he was supposed to bookend with
. After leading the SEC with 13.5 in 2006, Anderson was looked at as the top pass rusher in the 2007 NFL Draft.
For the Falcons, though, Anderson has had just 4.5 sacks and 105 tackles in four seasons. Now Anderson plays both tackle and end. If he was good, though, Anderson would be able to hold down one position.
Anderson is a power end. In a draft this year filled with power ends, does he remind you of anyone in this year’s class?
