In his weekly Monday Morning Quarterback column, Peter King of Sports Illustrated described how the Panthers are doing extra homework on Auburn's Cam Newton.
Poll: Who will the Panthers take at No. 1?
That’s led many to believe that Newton is a slam dunk as the Panthers’ pick at No. 1 overall. While that appears to be the case right now, there’s plenty time for the to change. If Carolina starts to waver on Newton – maybe based on tape, maybe based on contract negotiations – who will end up as the No. 1 pick?
Take our poll and let us know.
If the pick is wide open, the other candidates might not be. In January, Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said a quarterback is the team’s No. 1 need. With that in mind, Charlie Casserly of NFL Network thinks Missouri quarterback Blaine Gabbert is the best quarterback in this class.
Hurney also said that defensive tackle is the No. 2 need. That could open the pick up to Alabama’s Marcell Dareus.
Then there is Georgia wide receiver A.J. Green. Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith said leading up to the draft last year the team needed a new No. 1 receiver. They still do.
They could also have a big need at cornerback, where LSU’s Patrick Peterson comes into play.
So it seems like Carolina is leaning toward Newton, but there are still other options. Who do you think the Panthers will take?
