The Arizona Diamondbacks erased an early 5-0 deficit, and were then forced to rally again in the eighth in taking down the visiting Cincinnati Reds, 10-8.
Reds Vs. Diamondbacks: Chris Young Blast Pushes Arizona To Victory
The Reds got to DBacks starter Joe Saunders early on, taking advantage of five walks to build a 5-0 lead in the third inning. It was at that point that Arizona started thinking comeback. They got one run back in the third, then put together a five-run fifth to storm in front. The frame was keyed by Ryan Roberts' three-run homer.
But a Jonny Gomes two-run blast in the seventh put Cincinnati back on top, forcing Arizona to rally once more. With two outs in the eighth against reliever Nick Masset, Stephen Drew tied the game with an RBI single. Chris Young then stepped in and cleared the bases with a three-run home run to deep left, putting the Diamondbacks ahead 10-7.
Closer J.J. Putz had himself an interesting ninth, allowing three hits and a run, but with the tying run on first base, he was able to strike out both Juan Francisco and Jay Bruce to end it and give Arizona the 2-1 series win.
