Perry Jones III, who was listed as the 2011 NBA Draft's No. 2 pick in Tom Ziller's most recent 2011 mock, will reportedly stay in school for his sophomore season, according to Fox Sports' Jeff Goodman. That's surprising enough on its face, and quite possibly makes him the world's biggest Baylor basketball fan, but wait! There's more!
Perry Jones Returning To Baylor Basketball, Not Entering NBA Draft, According To Report
You’ll recall Jones was suspended from the Big 12 Tournament for accepting impermissible benefits. The NCAA decided Jones’ suspension should last six games, meaning five in addition to the one he served in the conference tourney. No way he’d be back for those five, of course.
But that’s the report. The big man would have to pay back those “benefits” and sit out games against out-of-conference opponents that could possibly include an early-season tournament. It’s hard to speculate on what his motives might be, if the report is accurate.
