Rajai Davis Ankle Injury Lands Speedy Blue Jay On Disabled List

Earlier in the season, Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Rajai Davis tweaked his ankle during a rundown. After missing a few days, he found his way back into the lineup, but he was pulled from Sunday's game after aggravating the injury, and the Jays have now placed him on the disabled list.

This injury isn’t expected to keep Davis out longer than the minimum, but the Jays figured he was going to have to miss a few days anyway, so they might as well play it safe, get him back to 100%, and fill out the 25-man roster. Had they elected not to put Davis on the DL, they would’ve had to play with a limited bench for however long he was hurting.

Davis will be replaced on the roster and in the lineup by Corey Patterson. Davis had been 5-for-32 on the year with a double and a steal. Patterson ought to fill in capably enough, although given his career .292 OBP, the Jays probably hope this is the only instance in which they have to give him regular playing time.
