Hamburg And Frank Rost To Go Separate Ways

It was announced this week that Hamburg and veteran goalkeeper Frank Rost would be going their separate ways at the end of the season.

"To be honest we all knew that this season would be my last at HSV. It is good that it has all been sorted out and reached agreement. I am now looking forward to my final games in a HSV shirt. After 20 years in football, I will enjoy my last games and say goodbye, although I plan to remain in football."

Rost has appeared in well over 550 domestic and international matches for his club teams in a career than spans back to the early 1990s. He would spend ten seasons with Werder Bremen, five seasons with Schalke 04, and the last four seasons with Hamburg. Rost would never stand out for his country. Over his lengthy career he only earned four caps with Germany, with his debut coming in 2002 against the United States.

Ross has been highly critical of the club’s management at times this season, even being fined once. He repeated this criticism recently after the 0-0 draw at Hoffenhaim on April 2.

After the announcement was made that Rost would be leaving Hamburg, the head of the board Carl Jarchow stated, “We can imagine retaining Franks services in some capacity at the club, if we can reach agreement regarding his possible demands.”
