Manchester City have suffered a major blow to their hopes of reaching the FA Cup final with news that Carlos Tevez's hamstring injury is severe enough that he'll be unavailable for their semi-final battle against Manchester United at Wembley. It gets even worse for the club, however. According to Roberto Mancini, Tevez isn't just out for Saturday's match but could in fact miss most of the rest of the season:
Carlos Tevez Hamstring Injury Forces Striker Out For A Month
It’s a big problem in this moment but we can’t take any risk because after this we have six games in the league and, hopefully, a Cup final. My hope is that we have him back fit for the last couple of games in the league or the [FA Cup] final.
Beating United in an FA Cup semi-final would be a major point of pride for City, but the prospect of losing their captain for the run-in must be downright frightening. Just like last season, Roberto Mancini's side are locked in a battle for fourth place with Tottenham Hotspur, sitting just three points ahead of their rivals having played a game more. With Champions League football vital for Manchester City's image, the absence of their talisman for several games could allow Tottenham to overhaul them. It's very easy to see Tevez's injury as the catalyst for yet another season spent in the Europa League for City.
