Ryan Houston, who was expected to be the North Carolina Tar Heels No. 1 running back this season, underwent successful surgery on his right scapula Thursday, the school announced. Houston, who led the team in rushing yardage in 2009, suffered the shoulder injury during UNC's April 9 spring game.
Ryan Houston Undergoes Successful Surgery After Spring Game Shoulder Injury
He’s expected to miss about four months of time, which would put him in line to be able to play this season. And the Heels would certainly prefer to see him on the field.
He was forced to redshirt last season after sitting out during the ongoing (still!) NCAA investigation into the Carolina program's dealings with agents. In his stead the Heels relied on Johnny White, Shaun Draughns, and Anthony Elzy, all of whom were seniors last year. Their leading returning rusher, Joshua Adams, is a wide receiver. So, yeah, they could use a Houston return.
