Premier League Weekend Preview: Chelsea Travel To West Brom Before The Battle Of Manchester Commences

Did you know there are actual games before the Manchester United-Manchester City FA Cup semi-final? I know, right? They're probably boring. But here's a preview anyway, just in case you're not going all gooey-kneed at the thought of both Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez not playing against each other at all at Wembley Stadium. As for the league games - Liverpool travelling to Arsenal can't be too bad, can it?

Saturday

Birmingham City vs. Sunderland

Time: 3:00 PM GMT (10:00 AM EST)

Birmingham are at home and Sunderland can't buy a win these days, despite having tonnes of Darren Bent money sitting around. Why buy Stephane Sessegnon when you could probably just give Ben Foster a couple of million to throw the game?

Pick: 2-0 Birmingham.

Blackpool vs. Wigan Athletic

Time: 3:00PM GMT (10:00 AM EST)

I was going to complain that there was absolutely nothing funny about this match, and then I remembered that Ian Holloway exists and that Roberto Martinez is adorable. Just imagine Holloway giving running commentary of them having a hug or something. Awwwww!

Pick: 3-2 Blackpool.

Everton vs. Blackburn Rovers

Time: 3:00 PM GMT (10:00 AM EST)

This wins ‘tie in which a fistfight between managers would be least surprising and most entertaining’, which is something, I suppose. As for the match, Everton put in a reasonably entertaining performance against Wolves last weekend, but Blackburn are Blackburn and that typically doesn’t bode well.

Pick: 1-1 Draw.

West Bromwich Albion vs. Chelsea

Time: 3:00 PM GMT (10:00 AM EST)

When was the last time Chelsea beat a team managed by Roy Hodgson? That’s right, last year. Not this one. Now that he’s back in a proper English team where it would be possible to field Paul Konchesky at left back without looking like an idiot, he’s back in his element, and ready to take on those foreign devils from London.

Pick: 1-1 Draw.

West Ham United vs. Aston Villa

Time: 3:00 PM GMT (10:00 AM EST)

Remember that win Villa had last week? Beating a Newcastle reserve team isn't that hard, but they played far better than the 1-0 scoreline would indicate. It looked like a new dawn for the relegation-threatened Villans, but it won't continue this week - the sun is scared of Scott Parker's rippling physique.

Pick: 2-0 West Ham.

Sunday

Arsenal vs. Liverpool

Time: 4:00 PM GMT (11:00 AM EST)

These sides battled it out to a draw in the first game of the season at Anfield, and Arsenal only emerged with a point thanks to a comedy own goal from Pepe Reina in the very last minute of the match. Something tells me that comedy from the home goalkeepers will happen somewhat earlier at the Emirates.

Pick: 2-2 Draw.
