The best high school basketball players in the country ran the court in Charlotte tonight, and in the 2011 Jordan Brand Classic, the East topped the West, 113-109.
Jordan Brand Classic 2011: East Beats West, 113-109, But Anthony Davis Stars
Anthony Davis, playing for the West team, had the game’s biggest night. He made 13 of 15 shots and scored 29 points — the highest total tallied in a Jordan Brand Classic by a player not named LeBron James, who had 34 points in 2003 — and his scoring kept the West in the game until a couple of late free throws pushed the East’s lead out of reach. He will be headed to Kentucky in the fall.
James McAdoo, a North Carolina commit, led the East with 26 points and added 14 rebounds. He and Davis were named co-MVPs.
Of course, in a high school all-star game, there isn’t much defense being played. SLAM Magazine’s Ben Osbourne called the end of the game a “dunkfest.”
Jonathan Givony of Draft Express, one of the foremost experts in prep hoops, named Davis his top high school player in the Class of 2011 after the game.
