Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale has won the PFA Player of the Year award, according to Oliver Kay of the London Times. The Spurs player, who has been in impressive form when not injured this season, has finished ahead of Arsenal's Samir Nasri and Manchester City captain Carlos Tevez, which just lends to the impression that the players voting for this award are basing it almost entirely on watching Match of the Day highlights (the award is given based on votes from other players).
Gareth Bale And Jack Wilshere Win PFA Awards
Confirmed PFA Player of the Year results: 1st Bale, 2nd Nasri, 3rd Tevez
Gareth Bale isn't the only winner, though. Arsenal may seen a player have come in second in the main voting but Jack Wilshere has - to nobody's surprise - won PFA Young Player of the Year. The previous holder of that award is James Milner, which presumably means that Manchester City will put in a ludicrously high bid for Wilshere in the summer and force him to become a winger.
The full PFA team of the year is as follows:
- GK: Edwin Van Der Sar (Manchester United)
- LB: Ashley Cole (Chelsea)
- CB: Nemanja Vidic (Manchester United)
- CB: Vincent Kompany (Manchester City)
- RB: Bacary Sagna (Arsenal)
- LM: Gareth Bale (Tottenham Hotspur)
- CM: Jack Wilshere (Arsenal)
- CM: Samir Nasri (Arsenal)
- RM: Nani (Manchester United)
- CF: Carlos Tevez (Manchester City)
- CF: Dimitar Berbatov (Manchester United)
A discussion about just how good a team could possibly be if it played a 4-4-2 with Samir Nasri and Jack Wilshere as the central players is probably best saved for another time.
