The Texas Rangers have gotten most of the attention, but the Los Angeles Angels have been playing good baseball, and on Sunday they continued their charge to the top of the AL West by beating the Chicago White Sox 4-2, completing a three-game series sweep and winning their fifth in a row overall.
Angels Vs. White Sox: Dan Haren Wins Fourth As LA Keeps Rolling
The Angels were able to scrape together four runs against Mark Buehrle, establishing a 4-0 lead in the sixth. Bobby Abreu came up with an RBI double, and in the fourth inning, rookie Mark Trumbo blasted a solo shot for the second home run of his season and career. With Dan Haren looking dominant, this game appeared to be in the bag.
The White Sox, though, wouldn't roll over. They got two back in the seventh off Haren with RBI singles by A.J. Pierzynski and Alexei Ramirez, and had two on with one out before the Angels' bullpen was able to put out the fire. Then in the ninth, the White Sox loaded the bases against rookie closer Jordan Walden before Juan Pierre flew out to end the game. The White Sox did have their opportunities, but weren't able to come up with the big hit.
Haren allowed two runs in 6.1 innings, with six strikeouts and no walks. His K/BB on the season is up to 27/2, and his record is 4-0. Buehrle took the loss despite striking out five in seven frames.
The Angels fly out to begin a series in Texas on Monday, while the White Sox are on the way to Tampa Bay.
