Ana Ivanovic Retires Early With Injury, Dominika Cibulkova Cheers And Draws Twitter Rage

When Ana Ivanovic retired early from her FedCup match on Sunday, her opponent Dominika Cibulkova celebrated, which has caused Twitter fans from both side to attack Cibulkova. Ivanovic retired in the second set of the match when the Serb and Slovak were tied at 3 all.

“This is the first time someone has retired against me,” said the Slovak. “When I saw her walking to the net I got really happy so I hope she won’t take it personally.”

Fans on both sides seemed to forget about the fact that Ivanovic retired until today when Zdeslav Milinkovic, the Serbian team doctor, reported that Ivanovic’s injury to her abdominal was not serious. She will return to the court to practice in the next few days. However, one of her Serbian teammates said Ivanovic would likely not practice for a week.

The injury began for Ivanovic over three months ago at the Australian Open. Serbia beat the Slovak Republic, 3-2, despite Ivanovic’s withdrawl.

The Twitter rage against Cibulkova still continues. It even caused an unlikely picture of her. (h/t tennis grandstand)
