Four Rice Football Players Arrested For Assorted Drug, Weapons Charges

Not to be outdone by another privileged run-in at Duke, four Rice football players were arrested this week in neat pairs -- two on drug charges, and two on weapons charges. So orderly!

First up were DE Cody Bauer and OL Cade Shaw, hit with firearms possession charges on Saturday, followed by CB Kevin Gaddis and position-mate Phillip Gaines' Monday stop for marijuana possession. All four are out on bond, according to public police records. Don't look for much more information to emerge from this case, however:

Online records show no attorneys for the four, and school spokesman B.J. Almond tells the Houston Chronicle that Rice is providing no other information because the university is private. Rice athletic director Rick Greenspan said he was investigating.

On the Owls' last available depth chart, Shaw is listed as the team's third-string center. Bauer has cracked the two-deep, behind Kramer Lucio at defensive end. Gaddis and Gaines are 1-2 at corner, opposite Chris Jammer and Martin Uwah.
