On Saturday in Toronto, David Price delivered a strong start and Kyle Farnsworth was able to slam the door to deliver the Tampa Bay Rays a 6-4 win over the Blue Jays. The series is now tied at a game apiece, with the rubber match scheduled for 1:07 p.m. Eastern on Sunday.
Rays Vs. Blue Jays: Tampa Bay Survives 9th-Inning Rally To Win In Toronto, 6-4
Price was terrific through eight innings, allowing only two runs while scattering five hits, but the Blue Jays opened the ninth with three consecutive hits. Kyle Farnsworth, who has emerged as the Rays' closer, took the ball and immediately gave up an RBI single to Juan Rivera. With the score 6-4, and with the Blue Jays' winning run at the plate, Travis Snider sac-bunted to send Chris Woodward and Jose Molina to second and third, respectively.
Snider was thrown out by a hair at first, though he appeared to be safe in replays. Farnsworth promptly retired the final two batters to seal the win and pick up his fifth save of the season.
Offensively, the Rays were powered by Johnny Damon and Ben Zobrist, who notched three RBI apiece and smacked their fourth home runs of the year.
In a losing effort, Brandon Morrow struck out 10 Rays in only 5-1/3 innings. He was pulled after 93 pitches; the Blue Jays presumably wanted to limit their starter's workload in his return from the Disabled List. The Jays fell to 9-11 on the season, while the Rays improved to 10-11.
